Brand Creative checks out Design Days Dubai 2014!

It was the week of the year that creative types across Dubai look forward to, and the crew here at Brand Creative were no exception.

Art Week, which includes Art Dubai, SIKKA and, our favourite, Design Days, sees us setting off in convoy across the city to soak up the buzz at a fair dedicated to showcasing the newest objects and furniture as well as stunning installations from Middle Eastern and International galleries.

With such a diverse range of interests and specialties in our team it’s fascinating to check out the fair together, bouncing thoughts and opinions off one another, whether its relating to the technical realities of creating a piece or pure aesthetic preferences!

Brand Creative favourites this year included an atmospheric room of plastic trees ‘PP Trysting Trees’ by Tom Price, where polypropylene piping made up trunks, branches and leaves, with beautiful shapes and shadows creating an eerily magical room.

In furniture the ‘Bibendum chair’ in stainless steel by French designer Toni Grilo caught our eye, the bulbous tube shapes injecting a sense of humour into the everyday object and reminding us a little of the sculpture work of Jeff Koons.

Finally ‘The Obsessive Drafter’ by Guillaume Crédoz and Nareg Karaoghlanian was like a giant robot babysitter for some of our tech-savvy guys. The tech-art installation of a robotic arm creating huge murals on the entrance wall captivated the team and kept them out of trouble…for a bit!

After soaking it all up, with the added excitement of seeing Sheikh Mohammed stride through the venue, we went our separate ways, filled with inspiration and looking forward to the next project that comes our way with a request to ‘think outside the box’!
