Dubai branding studio Brand Creative gets musical.

My dad likes to tell the story of how, at the age of four I stole a guitar. I remember it slightly differently – I found it! It turns out a neighbour had thrown out his damaged Spanish guitar and left it to be collected by the garbage men. After a severe telling off from my dad and a conversation with the neighbour (in which I was very unfairly made to apologise)– I had a new(ish) guitar - and I loved it! 

From this point onwards I was obsessed with my guitar and with music. I’d spend hours learning how to play my favorite songs – imagining the drums and bass kicking in during my perfect(ish) rendition of Sweet Child O' Mine. 

I recently came across a piece of kit that really does allow the bass, the drums and hundreds of other instruments to kick in – all controlled by me – all while I play the guitar. ACPAD is hitting the market soon and it really can turn your simple acoustic guitar into a full-scale band. It’s the brainchild of Robin Sukroso who wanted to combine his love for electronic music and his acoustic guitar. 

ACPAD is a midi (music instrument digital interface) controller that sits on the body of your guitar and connects to your computer wirelessly. It has a number of controls that allow you to play multiple instruments, effects, create loops and record samples – all at the same time. If that doesn’t make sense – take my word for it – it’s seriously cool! The design process went through six prototypes, each version improving on the last and fine tuning the user experience. The buttons are even pressure sensitive – allowing you complete musical control over multiple instruments.  

What I love about ACPAD is how it’s intelligent design can give a musician total freedom. With a bit of practice you have the power of a entire band at your finger tips. I can't wait to see what musicians can achieve with ACPAD.
