Dubai interior design company Brand Creative disconnects to connect.

You know that moment when you realize you need to disconnect? You can feel life moving along but it doesn’t feel authentic. You tell yourself, “okay, today I am going to sit and read, or write, or draw or just think with no technology to distract me.” But without thinking or realizing you catch yourself red handed – swiping away on your mobile or fingers snapping on the keyboard. You quickly realize the hold your devices have on your life. So you ask yourself…Is it impossible to focus on a task without feeling dependent on the internet, social media, etc? Are we okay creating without the aid of technology or being connected to a device during the creative process? Do our minds have space to think freely? Do we have the capacity for deep exploration or do external influences hinder this? Basically, can we disconnect?
Well, Melissa Urge, a writer & overall creative-being asked similar questions which led her to start Seymour+Space, “a non-profit organization committed to helping individuals cultivate creative self-expression by encouraging them to balance technological stimuli with internal exploration.”
Seymour+Space is located in a beautiful and minimally designed space in Paris and its main objective is to help you disconnect so that you can connect. No computers, mobiles, books or magazines are allowed and the space offers five interactive areas to encourage the exploration of our subconscious – our dreams, our ideas, our spirituality and, ultimately, our creativity. Now don’t be scared, as each area offers suggestions on how to engage with the space to make the most of your experience. I suspect the more times you visit the more exploration and self-initiated thoughts start to develop.
I don’t believe technology is the devil, nor do the people behind Seymour+ Space. If anything we all know it has helped us move forward in every aspect of life. But that doesn’t mean we should be encumbered by it.
The space is open to anyone. Artist or not, it doesn’t matter. Every human seeks self-expression and this is the beauty of the space, it’s open for your own interruption. Each person will have their own reason for visiting and each person will have their own experience of the space. The idea is to leave feeling connected to your inner self and to feel present with your ideas. The end goal – to reveal your truest self.
So next time you are traveling via Paris, visit Seymour Projects, , for a moment of pause and exploration. Or take this as inspiration and try to disconnect in your own space. (I’m sure Instagram will be okay without us for a moment)
