Dubai Interior Designer John on Invisible Design

April 04, 2017

I’m fascinated with a thought of having an ability to make things invisible, which is ironic considering  that I work in an interior design agency in Dubai that specialises in branding and visual design. At Brand Creative, the interior design and branding concepts that we are developing must be “visible” to be fully appreciated. With this in mind, I became intrigued by this piece of architecture that features the ability to “cloak” its structure. Here the quoted aphorism of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, “less is more” has been taken to the next level in a bold design by GDS Architects. The Tower Infinity, which will be built in South Korea, will not be a typical high-rise build. Instead of displaying its architectural form with domineering height and scale, the ‘world’s first invisible tower’ will embody an ‘anti tower’ approach. The 450 metre tall tower will utilise a high definition cameras to project what’s behind the tower onto a state of the art LED façade, thus creating an optical illusion that will make the tower appear ‘invisible’ to the viewer. Situated in a busy urban surrounding just outside Seoul, the tower will be able to disguise itself at certain times and angles. This innovative approach reduces the possibility of the tower becoming over-imposing within its hectic environment. The futuristic design of the tower will establish Korea’s position by showcasing its architectural capabilities and innovative approach to technology. Though the completion date is yet to be confirmed, this striking building will create quite a view…or lack thereof. By John Gimao, Interior Designer Archinect CNN
