Innovative Design with Progressive Intentions - The Louvre Abu Dhabi
September 07, 2017
Since Brand Creative launched in Dubai 6 years ago, the local art and design scene has continually expanded, bringing an increasing variety of cultural activities to the UAE. Our branding, interiors and graphics team are always on the lookout for creative inspiration, so we can barely contain our excitement for the upcoming launch of the Louvre in Abu Dhabi.
Though the project was originally intended to be finished in 2012, the opening date is now expected to be opening on November 11th 2017 and the building is looking just as epic as we imagined. Situated on the picturesque (albeit under development) Saadyat Island, the design was created by acclaimed French architect Jean Nouvel, with the intention of reflecting the progressive nature of its location whilst referencing the traditional heritage of the region. Having seen the latest pictures of the structure, it’s safe to say that this objective has been achieved, resulting in an unbelievable building that fully lives up to the iconic ‘Louvre’ name.
The focal design feature is the monumental dome, which is based on thatched palm leaf roofs of traditional Emirati houses. The 600ft-wide geometric structure is designed to let through beams of sunlight through the perforations across the museum city, resulting in a mesmerising ‘rain of light’ that alters the interior throughout the course of the day.
The museum is a true testament to the innovative, international nature of the UAE and is set not only to advance the cultural diversity of the region but also reinforce a fundamental message of progression and tolerance.
